The suspect at the center of the hours-long standoff is reportedly dead after he attempted to flee from Law Enforcement at the scene.
A release from the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation said the man suspected of shooting and killing Sheridan Police Sergeant Nevada Krinkee was shot and killed as he tried to flee with a weapon from a home he had barricaded himself in.
Police shot the suspect, and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release from the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.
The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation will continue to lead the investigation that now includes an officer-involved shooting.

Authorities report that they have taken the shooting suspect in custody now.
After a standoff lasting over a day, events ended quickly after a short chase when the suspect fled on foot from the building he had barricaded himself inside of.

As per the most recent update, the man suspected of shooting and killing the Sheridan police sergeant Tuesday is still barricaded in a housenear 6th Street and North Sheridan Avenue over 24 hours after the shooting occurred.
As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, Wyoming law-enforcement and SWAT teams still have William Lowery surrounded, after they have attempted to remove him from the house with many tactics, such as a water canon, armored vehicle and an excavator, according to thearticle by Cowboy State Daily.
"A track hoe excavator, a pressure hose, at least one Bearcat armored vehicle and a legion of armed agents have been bearing down on a home in a residential neighborhood since about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, pressuring the suspect to givehimself up," the article said.
On Tuesday afternoon and evening, the surrounding army tried to breach the house using gas bombs and flash-bang devices, according to another Cowboy State Daily article.
That article says the law enforcement also sent in a tactical robot and at one point got an agreement by Lowery surrender. He did not follow through with the agreement.
Law enforcement and SWAT agencies kept watch through the night, and a second Bearcat armed vehicle arrived at 11:36 p.m.
At 8:28 a.m. a track hoe excavator rolled down Saberton Ave toward the house after Sheridan Police Department Chief Travis Koltiska reportedly placed a 7 a.m. phone call to a friend, asking for an excavator.
When an excavator arrived on scene, a tactical agent with some machinery experience took over the controls and "rumbled toward the house," according to the article.
Agents blasted water into the house with a pressure-hose for about five minutes starting at 9 a.m.

The standoff situation in Sheridan remains unresolved as of 9 a.m. Wednesday.
In a Facebook post, Sheridan WY Police and Fire (SPD) said the city of Sheridan and the police department has received a large amount of support throughout the community, region and state following the passing of Sheridan PoliceSgt. Nevada Krinkee.
"Our community has been deeply affected by this tragedy. We are resilient and continue to band together in this time of adversity," SPD said in a Facebook post.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Governor Gordon has issued the following statement following the fatal shooting of a police officer in Sheridan today:
"I join all of Wyoming in mourning the loss of Sheridan Police Sergeant Nevada Krinkee, who was killed in the line of duty today. This senseless act is a solemn reminder of the selfless risks our law enforcement officers take each day when they put on the badge. Jennie and I extend our deepestcondolences to the family and loved ones of Sergeant Krinkee, the Sheridan Police Department, and the entire law enforcement community."
UPDATE @ 3:30 p.m. on 2/13/2024 - Sheridan Police and Fire announced on social media Tuesday afternoon that Sgt. Nevada Krinkee, a six and a half-year veteran of the department, was shot and killed while attempting to deliver a trespass warning on a male subject near the intersection of 5th Street and Val Vista Street.
Sgt. Krinkee was transported to Sheridan Memorial Hospital where it is reported that he succumbed to the injuries.
Sheridan Police say the male subject fled the scene and was located a short time later in the area of 6th and N. Sheridan Avenue. Members of the Sheridan Police Department, Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wyoming Highway Patrol established a perimeter and determined that the subject had barricaded himself inside a residence and other residents in the vicinity were evacuated from the area.
Members of Gilette Police Department tactical unit and Crisis Negotiators responded to assist in the situation and a stand-off ensued. The scene is reportedly still active at time of writing.
Sheridan Police reports that the investigation is being turned over to The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI). Additional information regarding the event will be made available through the DCI Public Information Officer.
Sheridan Police expressed their shock and grief at the suddenness of this event and also expressed their appreciation for the thoughts and prayers from the community. They ask that the public please respect the privacy of Sgt. Krinkee's family through this difficult time.

UPDATE @ 2:15 p.m. on 2/13/2024 -Sheridan Chief of Police,Travis Koltiska, has stated through social media that there is no longer any threat to the public at this time. The situation is contained though still ongoing.
The Chief of Police is asking the public to continue avoidingtraveling north on Sheridan Avenue past 5th Street and respect police boundaries and barriers.
SPD stated they are beingassisted by the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the Gillette Police Department and the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office.
SPD further stated that information will be released as the situation develops.
SHERIDAN, Wyoming. - The City of Sheridan reports they are actively investigating a scene off of North Sheridan Avenue Tuesday.
According to the Sheridan Police and Fire Department's Facebook postfrom around 12:40 PM Tuesday, February 13, the investigation is still ongoing, and the public is advised to avoid the area and all police boundaries around the location.
A local publication,Sheridan Media, said the Sheridan Police Department is currently being assisted by theWyoming Highway Patrol, the Gillette Police Department and the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office.
