I I I THE INDEX- GREENWOOD. S. C. April 15, 1950 Fifteen Couples Join Nine O'clock Dance Club Here New members of the Nine O'Clock Dance Club were introduced at the club dance Thursday night at the Oregon Hotel. The following 15 couples were prented by Frank Ed wards, president: Mr.

and Mrs. Cecil, Browning, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Braddy, Dr. Mrs.

W. S. Brockington, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Boswell, Mr.

and Mrs. Larry Garrett, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Grier, Mr. and Mrs.

Lewis Harrison, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Marshall, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Jr.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Squires, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Todd, Mr.

and Mrs. Jimmy Wade, Mr. and Mrs. John P. (Red) Walsh, Mr.

and Mrs. J. w. (Red) Wilson, and Mr. and Mrs.

Sam Zimmerman. The banquet table was decorated with a large center arrangement of dogwood, iris and daffodils with Japanese umbrellas and figurines on elther end of the table. Snifters holding spring flowers were also used on the table. Jonquils and spring flowers were used at other points in the room. Tiny green and yellow umbrellas were pinned on each guest's lapel.

Refreshments served were cold drinks and hors d'oeuvres. MRS. JAMES GORDON HALFORD, JR. completed the setting. Mrs.

L. S. Maxwell, aunt of the bridegroom of Johnston, Miss Evelyn Martin of Greenwood and Roy Crowe of Greenwood and New York gave the nuptial music. Mrs. well played "Schubert's "Meditation" from "Thaise" (Massenet), and during the ceremony, "To A Wild Rose" (McDowell).

Miss Martin sang "Oh Promise Me" (DeKoven) and "A Wedding Prayer" as the couple knelt. Mr. Crowe gave "Until" (Sanderson) and he and Miss Martin sang duet, "Thine Alone" (Herbert). The organist played the traditional wedding marches. Those serving as groomsmen were Joe Brice Feagle, of ston, Dr.

B. J. Workman of Columbia, Dr. Paul Watson of Woodruff, Dr Hames of Charleston, Dr. Joe Thomas of New Jersey, and George Humphries of Johnston.

Ushers were Dr. Kelly Fairey and Wilbur Crouch of Johnston, ard Hastings of Newberry and Herbert Toole of North Augusta. Dr. J. G.

Halford, father of the bridegroom, was best man, The bridesmaids included Miss Edna Hooker of Columbia, coustn of the bride; Misses Frances Earle and Annie Maxwell Halford of Johnston, sisters of the bridegroom; Miss Betty Jo Payne of Greenwood, Miss Ruth Moore of Greenwood and Columbia and Mrs. J. C. Lomas, Jr. of Columbia.

They were gowned in white marquisette over pale green taffeta and carried arm bouquets of shaded snapdragons and pink roses tied with matching ribbon Miss Betty Hooker, of Columbia, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor and matron of honor WAS Mrs. Graham Bledsoe of Ninety Six, sister of the bride. Their dresses were white marquisette over pink taffeta and they carried lar bouquets. Little Marilyn and Jane Gault Bledsoe of Ninety Six, nieces of the bride, were flower girls. They wore white organdy over pale green taffeta, the dresses being styled with frills and lace.

They carried miniature bouquets like those of the adult attendants. The bride entered with her brother-in-law, Graham Bledsoe of Ninety Six by whom she was given in marriage. She wore a wedding gown of ivory slipper satin with yoke of illusion and bertha embroidered with seed pearls. The gown was styled with buttons extending down the back, large bustle in back and long lily tip sleeves. Marjorie Gault, Dr.

J. G. Halford Wed At Methodist Church Here Miss Marjorie Ruth Gault, daughter of Mrs. William Forney Gault and the late Rev. Mr.

Gault was married in an impressive ceremony Friday night, 14 to Dr. James Gordon Halford, Jr. of Johnston, son of Dr. and Mrs. J.

G. Halford of Johnston. The ceremony took place at Main Street Methodist Church at 8 p. m. with the Rev.

John M. Shingler, pastor of the church, officiating. The church was decorated with palms and baskets of lilies, snapdragons and gladioli against a white background. A number of lighted tapers in seven-branched candelabra completed the setting. The full length vell of illusion was, caught with a tiara of seed pearls.

Her bridal bouquet was of bride's roses and maline centered with white orchid. She wore single strand of pearls belonging to her mother. The bride's mother wore a dress of aqua crepe and lace with a sage of pink roses. The mother of the bridegroom was dressed in powder blue crepe with corsage. Following the wedding Mrs.

Gault, mother of the bride, entertained at a reception at the Oregon Hotel. Assisting in entertaining were the following: Mrs. J. H. Fisher, Mrs.

Monroe Fisher, Mrs. Verna Seal Carson, Miss Pearle Payne, Mrs. Julius Leary, Mrs. Bill Buchanan, Mrs. Julia Balentine of Columbia, Mrs Grace Crouch and Mrs.

H. Crouch of Johnston. Refreshments were lime punch, individual cakes, nuts and mints. The bride changed to a suit of sea foam green with natural and toast accessories and a white orchid corsage for wedding trip to an unannounced destination. The couple will make their home in Ridge Spring.

Mrs. Halford is Greenwood High School graduate, attended Lander College and graduated from the School of Nursing of the Medical College of the State of South Carolina and Roper Hospital, Since graduation she has been employed in the office of Dr. W. 8. Brockington of Greenwood.

Dr. Halford graduated from Johnston High School and Wofford College and while at Wofford he was a member of Sigma Alpha silon fraternity. He attended Yale University PreMedical School and received his medical training at the Medical. College of South Carolina. While there he belonged to Alpha Kappa Kappa Medical fraternity.

E. Goodenough, Mrs. Fred Melton and Mrs. Oscar Vincent were hostesses to the Chrysanthemum Garden Club on Tuesday ternoon at the home of Mrs. Goodenough on West Creswell avenue.

Eighteen members and one visitor, Mrs. W. R. Crosstield of Greenville, were present. As the guests assembled the hostesses served congealed salad course with iced punch.

Mrs. O. E. Heath, president, reported action taken on various jects at a recent meeting of the federation. Mrs.

Carl Stewart, Mrs. Vincent, Mrs. Lucius mett, and Mrs. Joe Williams were appointed on committee to arrange luncheon table for the Flower Show School to be held April 18-19. Mrs.

Eddie bird chairman. reported that April 25 has been designated as Bird Day in Greenwood and appointed committees to work with the Cardinal Bird Club of the co*kesbury school in arranging a window display. Mrs. Fred Melton introduced the following members who gave brief talks on the subject, "My Favorite Mrs. Williams, Mrs.

Stewart, Mrs. Henry Stokes, Mrs. Andrew Gambrell and Mrs. Cecil MoFerrin. Team Two won first place for arrangement of spring flowers, Team One received second, and Team Three third MISS DORIS WEIL Weil Martin Mr.

and Mrs. Allen Paul of Charleston, South Carolina announce the engagement of her daughter Doris Well to Fred Seasel Martin Mr. Martin is the son of Mrs. George P. Martin and the late Mr.

MISS MILDRED INEZ COLLIER Collier Worthington Mr. and Mrs. Jesse L. Collier of Greenwood, South Carolina announce the engagement of their daughter Mildred Inez to Joe Edgar Worthington Mr.

Worthington is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Worthington of Greenwood.

The wedding rites will be performed on June 24. MEMBERS OF TULIP GARDEN CLUB ENJOY TOUR OF LOCAL GARDENS Lilac Club Joins State Federation Lilac Club met Tuesday, April 11 at the home of Mrs. George Ellison with Mrs. Roy Hinton assisting. There were 16 members and one visitor, Mrs.

Thomas Blair, present. Mrs. James Burnett, president urged all members to. attend the flower show school next week. She announced that the club has been admitted to the state" federation of garden clubs.

Mrs. Bob Trammell, bird chairman, announced that Lilac is soring the fifth and sixth grade bird clubs at Blake School. She called attention to the show, "Wings Over Greenwood" on April 25. Mrs. Robert Long was welcomed into the club as a new member and Mrs.

B. C. Bolt was voted in. Mrs. Ed Shirley introduced the Mrs.

Cy Young and Mrs. Dewey Johnson were hostesses Tuesday for the April meeting of Tulip Garden Club. The meeting took the form of a garden tour with members visiting the gardens of four of the Mrs. Young, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs.

George Byrd and Mrs. Gray Moore, with Mrs. G. E. Hawkins as the able guide.

After a business session the members and guests were invited into Mrs. Young's garden where a picnic luncheon was served. The tour ended with a visit to Mrs. Johnson's garden where punch, assorted cookies and nuts were enjoyed. Mrs.

Lewis Ogletree opened the meeting with prayer. Mrs. Carl Snead gave report of the bird program being carried on at Bold Springs School. A number of attractive bird houses made by the pupils were displayed and are to be sold to club members. Mrs.

C. Y. Thomason and Mrs. Nat Watson were appointed to select the prize winning exhibit made by pupils at the school. A letter was read from Mrs.

Randolph Grier, of flower show school Course 5 to be held at Leslie School April 18, 19, 20. She asked the cooperation of each member in order to make the school a success both financially and in attendance, Mrs. Walter Bishop, president, reported that the federation had voted against the plan for having blue print made of Lander campus. She also announced that there will be no federation luncheon in May due to lack of space and dations. The meeting was attended by 16 members and six guests, Mrs.

Ogletree, Mrs. B. C. Wallace, Mrs. G.

E. Hawkins, Mrs. G. G. Dowling of Beaufort, Mrs.
